Spend an early summer day hiking and learning about flowers and trees along this short but very sweet pathway through one of the richest of Southern Appalachian ecosystems. Great Smoky Mountains National Park is home to some 100 native tree species and 1,500 additional flowering plants within its 800 square miles of rugged, mountainous terrain. Cove Hardwood Nature Trail is somewhat rocky with occasional wet areas but it should be lush and colorful. The hike will be fun and informative as your long-term Field School instructors Joe and Kathy Zachry exchange experiences and knowledge with eager participants.

Notes:

The trailhead is in the Chimney Tops Picnic area (on the Tennessee side) just off Newfound Gap Road, Highway 441 east, about 4.4 miles from Sugarlands Visitor Center. Adequate parking usually is on the right, southside of the first restroom.
Fee: $79.00
