Citizen Science is a tool used in research and education where everyday citizens (like you and me!) participate in real science projects to generate useful data for scientists. We'll start with a presentation reviewing the history of Citizen Science and how we can safely collect, identify, photograph, document, and report our findings with the scientific community in Great Smoky Mountains National Park and at home in your community! You'll learn about easy-to-use apps and how valuable your smartphone can be to learn about the natural world and to assist in the conservation of the resources that we depend on. Citizen Science can teach people about the natural world and, at the same time, assist researchers in the collection of reliable data. We'll take an easy ramble in the outdoors to try out some of our new ideas and skills and you'll be able to continue the same at home in your own yard or natural areas in your community. Come to learn about fun, fabulous, and productive ways to enjoy the natural world and to support the Park.
